This section maps Green Belt accessibility using distance to rail stations and DfT Public Transport Connectivity. While Brownfield development is the most sustainable approach, capacity limitations and development costs mean the government has also proposed Green Belt reform to address housing shortages. The map shows accessible sites outside of environmentally protected areas and high flood risk sites. Proximity to rail stations is a basic indicator and does not necessarily mean these are suitable sites for development - most have existing uses.
